Successes and Challenges

 SUCCESSES AND CHALLENGES

Throughout our postproduction process, we have had many successes while also having to face and consider many challenges.

SUCCESSES:

  • Using editing techniques to cut clips and make them run smoothly together:

Some techniques are cross fading and invisible cuts which have helped combine clips in a smooth and thorough way. Although this may not allow the film to work in its original script form, being able to arrange things while editing helps make the ideas come to a real vision.

  • Matching audio:

We have been able to match audio levels together and create audio soundscapes. Having the ability to add background sound effects and music helps to make our film more engaging for the audience to watch and has contributed to making our film smooth and seamless.

  • Color grading:

We have used color grading to make each clip have the same tone. When we use a blander color scheme, it helps signify emptiness and sadness, whereas using a brighter color scheme helps signify a more lively and happy tone.

CHALLENGES:

  • Poor audio recordings:

Throughout filming, it was hard to shut out any sort of background noises that interfere with the voices of characters or sound effects of things like doors shutting, doorbell ringing, or car starting. This becomes a challenge because it is important to make sound effects like this seamless and seem more realistic. To make it clear we can use voiceovers, but it is very difficult to match the audios to avoid making it sound like a clear voiceover.

  • Tight deadlines:

The postproduction process is often crammed into a very small deadline. Within this time, we must edit the colors, audio, and clips, while also worrying about the reflection processes. All these processes may not seem too much to do in 3 short weeks, but in reality all these things are very time consuming and difficult to perfect.

  • Compatibility issues:

This has been a very common challenge we have had to face. When moving parts of our project through different software programs or computer systems, it can cause a bunch of hiccups and failures. This becomes very frustrating to deal with on top of all the jobs we already must do with these parts of the project.
